TRIO – Student Support Services
At UNC Charlotte, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) helps students maximize their Niner experience by providing personalized support from enrollment through graduation. Serving first-generation college students, students who meet federal income guidelines, and students with disabilities, TRIO SSS offers comprehensive academic, financial, career, and personal development resources designed to help students succeed.
TRIO Student Support Services is 100% federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education and supported by UNC Charlotte to serve 140 students annually for a period of five years. All services are free and available to any student who completes the application, qualifies under federal guidelines, and is invited into the program.

Who can particiate?
Interested students must be:
- A citizen or national of the U.S., or a person who meets the residency requirement for Federal student financial assistance.
- A student must be enrolled as a full-time, first-time bachelor’s degree-seeking student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte or accepted for enrollment in the next academic semester.
- A student must have a need for academic support, as determined by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte TRIO SSS Program, in order to successfully pursue a post-secondary educational program.
- AND the student meets at least one of the following criteria:
- First-generation college student (neither parent nor guardian has received a 4-year degree; older siblings may have attended college)
- Meets income requirements based on federal guidelines
- An individual registered with the Office of Accessibility and Accommodation
*Federal guidelines require that a certain percentage of students qualify by meeting more than one eligibility criteria.
